Introduction from Fr. Stefan Yap
Hello, I am Fr. Stefan Yap. It is great to be back here at St. John Neumann after being here as a summer seminarian 5 years ago with Fr. Joe Rogers and Fr. Dave Wells. I was just ordained this year on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, June 20, 2020. As some of you might remember, I am not originally from the Archdiocese. I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island and in New Jersey. I went to college at the University of Maryland College Park and graduated after 5 years with a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics. |
It was during my time at UMD that I received my call to the priesthood. The Catholic Student Center, CSC, at Maryland was a big help as well. The students that went to the CSC really knew the faith and challenged me to understand the faith as well. It was through these good friendships at the CSC that brought me closer to God. Fr. Rob Walsh, the chaplain, also played a big part in my growth in the faith as well. Fr. Rob challenged me to truly become a man of God by receiving the sacrament of confession frequently and to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament. After graduating college, I entered seminary for the Archdiocese of Washington and spend 2 years at the St. John Paul II Seminary and study theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. Some things about myself are, my favorite sports team is the Tottenham Hotspurs from the English Premier League, my favorite sport to play is volleyball, I am a tech-head, and my favorite saint is St. Agnes of Rome. I am looking forward to serving you as your priest and know of my prayers for all of you. |
