We recite it by rote. We have memorized the recent changes in translation, and learned how to pronounce, “consubstantial.”
But do we always reflect on the meanings of the words?
For example, when we state: “He suffered death,” are we thinking about the voluntary nature of the self-sacrifice that this phrase conveys (rather than the former version: “He suffered, died, and was buried”)?
Jack Price has taught lessons on the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed for several years in the Rite of Christian Initiation – Adult (RCIA) as well as other venues with side-by-side comparisons of the various forms it has taken over the centuries.
He will present a comprehensive explication of the words this prayer contains to express the essence of the Catholic faith.
Come prepared to be challenged as well as enlightened.
