Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday in Ordinary time. Next week we will begin the Holy Season of Advent. It would be good to take some time this week to make some spiritual plans and goals regarding this Holy Season the Church gives us. Saint John Neumann has provided a flyer with some events to help you on this path.
Whenever I hear this Gospel, it is hard not to think of Mother Teresa, who took the words of Jesus to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger as a mandate from Jesus to serve Him in the disguise of the poor. “I see Jesus in every human being,” said Mother Teresa, “I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus, I must feed him. This is sick Jesus. This one has leprosy or gangrene; I must wash him and tend to him. I serve because I love Jesus.”
It is beautiful to hear Mother Teresa. Here is a clip when she won the Nobel Prize.
It is such a blessing that we have an active and caring Saint Vincent De Paul Society who serves the needs of the poor in our parish boundaries. We had a beautiful coat drive last week to keep the homeless warm this winter, and we have a food pantry that feeds over 100 families each week. We serve Jesus in all of these ways.
The Food Pantry needs your help! Please continue to contribute food to the food pantry, especially during these Advent weeks. We desperately need your help to continue this work of God. Each week a list is given in the weekly update on flocknote about what is needed. You can check the website as well.
May God bless you all and may Christ the King rule your hearts!
