My name is Mathew Scruggs and I am so excited to join the St. John Neumann family as your new Director of Faith Formation. My passion is to share the truth, beauty, and goodness of the Catholic Church with as many people as possible and to help people grow deeper in their faith and love for Christ. I am originally from a small town called Alamogordo, New Mexico. I went to a small Baptist college in Texas and then went to Baylor University to get a Masters of Divinity. While there, I was also a Baptist youth minister. At Baylor, I discovered the beauty of Catholicism and in 2013 entered the Catholic Church.
I transferred to St. Mary’s in San Antonio to get my Masters in Theology while working as a Director of High School Ministry in Austin, TX. In 2016, I moved to Pittsburgh, PA to get my Ph.D. in Systematic Theology while serving as an adjunct professor, teaching fellow, and as a DRE and Young Adult minister in several Churches. I graduated with my Ph.D. on May 7th this year.
Now, I am excited to join you all at St. John Neumann’s and to live life together in the way of Christ, to journey together in faith, and work together to live out God’s kingdom on earth through our mutual participation in the sacraments and our parish community. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and will be in constant prayer for all of you.
